In 2023, health systems joined hands to enhance patient care and financial stability. Looking through the Advisory Board’s report, I found out that mergers in healthcare can be truly beneficial.

✅In April, Kaiser Permanente acquired Geisinger Health and set it up as an independent subsidiary called Risant Health. Kaiser’s plan is to absorb health systems that own hospitals, employ physicians, and run their own insurance.

✅CVS Health spent $10.6 billion to buy Oak Street Health in February to expand its services for seniors on Medicare and Medicare Advantage. The goal is to provide better and more integrated healthcare.

✅UnitedHealth Group made a $3.3 billion purchase of Amedisys in June, aiming to become a major player in home health and hospice services.

What Benefits Do Mergers and Acquisitions Bring Along?

Health system mergers enhance healthcare by streamlining operations, improving patient care, and ensuring financial stability. Through the elimination of redundancies, enhancement of services, and pooling of resources, these unions cultivate a resilient healthcare ecosystem.
