One of the most challenging and eternal questions in project management is “Which software development methodology will be the right option?” This is about development methodologies. This topic gets a lot of discussions and hot debates as every software development project start with the selection of an implementation approach.

Advantages of Agile:

  • The customer has frequent and early opportunities to see the work being delivered, and to make decisions and changes throughout the development project;
  • The customer gains a strong sense of ownership by working directly with the team throughout the project;
  • If time to market for a specific application is a greater concern than releasing a full feature set at initial launch, Agile can more quickly produce a basic version of working software which can be built upon in successive iterations;
  • Development is often more user-focused.

Advantages of the Waterfall Model:

  • It is one of the easiest models to manage. Due to its nature, each phase has specific deliverables and a review process;
  • It works well for smaller size projects where requirements are easily understandable;
  • Faster delivery of the project;
  • Process and results are well documented;
  • Easily adaptable method for shifting teams;
  • This project management methodology is beneficial in managing dependencies.
