9 Fundamental Agile Metrics

Today, probably, most of the existing software development teams practice Agile methodology and its derivatives such as Scrum and Kanban. Of course, it is much more perfect in comparison with its predecessor — Waterfall and allows both developers and the customer to see first glimpses of the future product at the early stages of development. On the other hand, practicing this methodology can prevent management from having an objective view of the team members’ performance, as well as from predicting the final result of their work activity. To solve this problem, the monitoring of the Agile metrics is employed. There are a great many of such metrics and, unfortunately, not all of them are universal or useful. Moreover, some of them may push managers to false conclusions. It is for this reason that we decided to provide the descriptions to the nine most useful in our experience Agile metrics for evaluating team performance: Sprint Burndown, Agile Velocity, Release Burndown, Cycle Time, Test Coverage, Cumulative Flow, Escaped Defects, Failed Deployments, and Team Spirit Level. Find out more about these metrics from our article.
